The first section is to do with troubleshooting crashes and install problems.
The second section is ingame problems with ships and equipment - NON crash related.

Section 1 - Installation issues

  How do I install Evolutions 1.28?

This assumes you already know what FLMM (Freelancer Mod Manager) is, and how to use it. If you do not, the FLMM is available in the downloads section. 

The Steps:

1) De-activate any mods.
2) Delete your Freelancer Folder
3) Reinstall Freelancer
4) Use FLMM - go to tools tab, select "go to save game folder" and delete everything
5) Download and install the SDK Ver 1.3
6) Download and install the CLIENT VERSION of the mod
7) Activate the mod, and have some fun

If your running a server, download and install the microsoft patch after the SDK!!!

  When i download it, I cannot install the mod - it gives an error instead

If this happens, it is most likely that the download is either corrupt, or incomplete.
Try downloading once more, and if it doesn't fix the issue, then change location (either here or TLR).

  When I try to open FLMM, it gives an error, and i cannot see Evolutions!

The mod has been checked, and so shold unzip perfectly. If it doesn't,
then the chances are that its corrupt. Try downloading once more, and try another location too.

  During the activation of the mod, i get an error and it fails.

In this case, its usually because a bit of scripting cannot find a location in the files.
This is more likely to happen in the server version than the client, as it does contain scripting.

If it does, then follow the install steps again by deleting the Freelancer Folder,
installing the sdk and then trying the mod once more. After this, it may be a corrupt file again - try
downloading the mod once more.

  When I try to deactivate the mod it says its had an error, and asks if i want to restore backups.
What does this mean?

It means that it cannot find a file that it wants to remove. In this case it will need you to restore
backups in order to deactivate the mod. However, after anything like this you should reinstall the SDK
at least!

  When I load the mod, I click on the icon to load FL, and it starts fine. However, 
it crashes after the videos, but before the menu screen.


Something is wrong, because Evo doesn't have any videos in it - so obviously its not activated correctly.
Deactivate the mod, and then follow the full install proceedure again.
Also check that FLMM is acting upon the right directory.

  It crashes during the Splash screen, without seeing the menu!

This is most likely due to save games files. Go to your default save games directory for FL 
(My documents/my games/freelancer/accts/) and delete EVERYTHING (folders, files and all)
If this does not fix it, then maybe a file is missing or corrupt. so deactivate the mod,
and install the SDK again. Then try reactivating the mod. If this fails, then try downloading the mod again,
and give it another go.

  After deactivating the mod, my game crashes

Although FLMM is a great tool, it does not always carry out the task perfectly.
Mods can leave behind files, so the first thing that you should do is use the SDK to install clean 
original game files. After this, go to your save games folder and delete all games files. If this 
doesn't fix the issue, then delete the Freelancer folder, and reinstall the game. Check save games is 
empty again to be sure.

If the problem persits, uninstall the game fully, and then reboot the computer. Reinstall the game.

  Whilst playing the mod i notice strange things, like no backgrounds, no ships or nothing has changed.
I sometimes get strange crashes too!

This is because of a corrupt install/bad install. Please deactivate the mod and try again.
If its the same, pleae delete the mod, then download and install once more.
After this - please contact us on the forums for more support.

  I keep crashing whilst playing - what should i do?

Report this to us on the forums. All crashes we hear about aid us to fix any issues and make the mod better.
ALSO - try a reinstall of the mod - delete the mod and download again. ALOT of crashes and bugs 
are actually due to a bad install - around half of them anyway.

  How do I install patches?

Download the patch, then double click upon it. You should see a prompt saying it will overwrite a mod
- should it proceed? Answer is yes, and this will then replace the files. ALWAYS DEACTIVATE THE MOD 
BEFORE DOWNLOADING A PATCH!

  After installing the patch i crash alot!

Whenever a patch is made, the version is updated in the full install. It could be a bad patch install,
so try deleting the mod, then downloading the full mod again. Always download from our site to ensure
that you get the right version. ALL patches will change the appearance of the mod in the FLMM window
- by adding the patch number. Ensure any server you play on displays the SAME patch number in news.

  How do I know if the patch installed?

It will change the name of the mod to reflect the patch number in the mods window of FLMM. 
It will say the mod name, followed by the patch number applied. Ensure that this matches any servers 
you may connect to in the server news!

  My question is not answered here, what do i do now?

For ANY problem, you should try a full install of the game again first, followed by re-downloading
the full mod anyway. This ensures that you should have clean files to start with. We do not respond 
if these steps have not been carried out in the first place!. If that doesn't work, then the forums 
are the best place to ask for help. We monitor the forums very closely between the 7 admins, and someone 
will ensure that whomever is in charge of the department (ini coding or ships or graphics) will be 
alerted to your problem. They will then either respond through the forum, or via email - so ALWAYS use 
a valid email address.

Please note - if you do not hear a response, it may be due to everyone being away.
Although there are alot of admins, not all the admins can help with fixes!

Section 2 - In game issues NON crash related
############################################


  When I buy a transport or Capital ship, I launch only to find that i lose power instantly 
and cannot move!!

This is because you have transferred over the power capacitor from your previous fighter.
In doing so, it displaces the power plant that you cannot see or unmount, which means you have no 
power unit supply at all. This was included in the readme file, which you should have read!

  I have no power whatsoever on my ship!

When you buy a ship, you must ensure that the main power unit it comes with is not removed or sold.
This supplies the power to the ship, not the power capacitor. If you do sell it/remove it, 
you should be able to buy another one upon most bases. The power capacitor does give you enough 
power to move slowly about, although it is minimal. You will not be able to fly at full speed, and 
should use the thruster rather than cruise. Also use power cut and thruster to increase flying speed to 
get you to the nearest station.

  I cannot dock my capital ship/transport with some stations or docking rings

This is simply because it cannot dock at all types of station. We decided that there should be some 
draw backs to large ships, so one is the limited docking. You cannot dock with docking rings, however, 
use the mooring point instead. You can dock through there. Fighters may also dock through this point, 
and we have included these above planets like Malta and Crete now as well

  The crippler, king and queen cruise disruptor don't fire!

Once again, you should have read the readme file, which clearly states that these weapons need VAST 
amounts of energy to fire them. You will need a capacity of at least 9000 to fire without any other 
source of drainage (like engine, guns or more).

  My missiles don't fire!!

Did your character die recently?

Player looting means that when you die you lose all cargo, all non mounted weapons, all ammunition, 
and ALL the bats and bots you are carrying as well. This is to re-introduce the fear of dying in game. 
Beware!!!

  When i die I lose everything!!

You may have done when you died, as you will lose anything that is not mounted.
This includes all equipment, weapons, ammo, and cargo that is not mounted. You have been warned.

  I do not see a death message when I die upon the servers??

No, you will not see a death message for any ship other than the starting ship. This is due to player 
looting being enabled. The starting ship still gives the message, as it doesn't let players loot others.
 This is to prevent picking on newbies for no reason. However, if you buy a starflier in the hopes that 
you cannot be looted anymore, you will find that its not possible. Only the starting starflier is 
non-lootable!

  During the single player game, sometimes the game doesn't finish a mission totally, and i am left 
hanging around doing nothing!!

Time to reload from the last mission! It is because some times have changed, and some weapons are more 
damaging than others. Missions triggers often have some speech in them too, or are activated after a line 
of speech. If you complete the mission before that trigger has been played, you will find that the mission 
doens't end.

 During docking the view is terrible, and the camera is looking through the base!!

Capships and large ships were NEVER meant to be player flyable. In enabling this, we had to utilise
victors docking method. Victors method works great, but unfortunately the side effect is that it makes the
view point for some ships during docking/launch to be horrible - and through the station. There is nothing
we can do at this point about it - so live with it.
You may also find you leave via moor points on some stations or planets. Once again, tough.
